Forced Air Furnace Troubleshooting Sollutions

Forced air furnace troubleshooting is normally something that should be done by a service technician rather than the home owner. Troubleshooting a forced air furnace can be very complicated. However there are some things that you can check yourself.

Air Conditioner Tip Of The Day
A Ton of air conditioning is equivalent to 12000 BTUs/hr or 288000 BTUs/24 hour period. Manufacturers usually rate their air conditioning equipment in BTUs per hour. So using this information, a 3 ton air conditioner would have a cooling capacity of 36000 BTUs/Hr. Excluding window and portable air conditioners, air conditioner capacities increase by half ton increments.

Often problems with forced air furnaces are simply maintenance related and can be easily resolved. Forced air furnace troubleshooting doesn’t necessarily mean diagnosing complex issues.

Some of the things that a home owner can check and monitor are filters and belts. These are two of the most common causes of problems with forced air furnaces. Check bests to make sure they are tight enough and not slipping. A belt should be tight enough to prevent slipping but you don’t want it too tight. There should be about half an inch of deflection when you push down on the belt with your finger and very little resistance. It is important to make sure that the furnace is turned off when making this check.

You should also check the belt for cracks. This is done by removing the belt and turning it inside out. When you do this you will easily be able to see it there are any cracks in the belt. If there are cracks the you should replace the belt.

The other thing that should be checked regularly is filters. A plugged furnace filter can cause many problems for a forced air furnace. A furnace filter should be replaced about every two to four months. For more information about furnace filters visit www.furnacefiltercare.com.

This is just a very brief overview of forced air furnace troubleshooting. For more complex repair issues with your furnace you should call a professional.
